The Dunwich Horror
Wilbur Whateley, the son of Lavinia Whateley and an unknown father, is the macabre horror of Dunwich, Massachusetts. Animals fear him, locals shun him, and the bizarre eldritch nature of Wilbur is only shadowed by the rituals committed by his mentally disturbed grandfather.
The Strange Case of Wilbur Whateley
Wilbur Whateley was born under strange circumstances. His mother was an albino, and was deformed physically and unstable mentally. Wilbur's grandfather was no better, possessing a dark obsession with witchcraft and grim rituals, which may have contributed to his daughter's frailty. Wilbur, however, was like no other. He reached maturity in a decade, and continually gave off a stench that drove away and enraged animals. The town shuns him, and he is locked into isolation in his family home, where his grandfather indoctrinates him into his dark rituals.

|
Through Wilbur and grandfather's dark exploits, they managed to trap an unseen entity in their barn. This entity is connected somehow to "Yog-Sothoth," a monstrous creature of black magic that is hinted to be the father of Wilbur. This entity rapidly grows, requiring the family to modify and rebuild their residence to accommodate their charge. People around Dunwich begin to notice the disappearance of their livestock, presumably taken to feed the creature's monstrous appetite. Soon, Wilbur's grandfather dies and his mother disappears, and the creature grows to fill the entire barn.

Wilbur's Plot
Unsatisfied by his eldritch "pet," Wilbur decides to go further: He wants to open a gate to the other side and summon the "Old Ones," deities of madness and chaos. He tries to get ahold of a copy of the Necronomicon, a book which holds the spell required to open the gate. He is denied the right to borrow it from the local university, and the university librarian contacts all other nearby libraries to blacklist his name and prevent him from borrowing it. Enraged, Wilbur breaks into the university library to steal the Necronomicon for his plans.

The Unseen Horror
Wilbur's odor enrages the University's guard dog, which violently kills him with unexpected voracity. The Librarian and a security guard come onto the seen, seeing Wilbur's semi-human corpse before it melts away into nothingness. The presence in the Whateley barn, left alone and untended due to Wilbur's passing, grows to a massive size and explodes out of the barn, rampaging across the countryside. It kills many, but is stopped by the Librarian through methods described in the Necronomicon. It's true nature is revealed; The creature was Wilbur's twin brother, though it "Looked more like the father than Wilbur did."
